Peripheral Neuropathy in West Greenwich
Neuropathy in West Greenwich is damage to the nerves which may be caused either by diseases or trauma to the nerves, chemotherapy, or diabetes, among other ways. Common symptoms of Neuropathy include:
- Balance Issues
- Burning
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Sharp-Shooting Pain
- Electric Pain
- Cramping
A normal, healthy nerve has an outer coating that protects it and allows proper function. This outer coating is living tissue. Like all living tissue, this outer coating needs blood supply and oxygen.
In Neuropathy, the blood supply and oxygen to this outer coating begin to die off. When this occurs, the living tissue is not given the nutrients it needs and begins to disintegrate. The decreased protection around the nerve causes it to “short circuit” and stop functioning normally.
This “short circuit” cases the nerves to misfire, which is why people with neuropathy experience an array of symptoms. The most common symptoms from this “misfiring” are burning, tingling, numbness, cramping, balance issues, and sharp-shooting pain.
There are many nerves in the feet and they all have different functions. There is a nerve that helps you balance, another that helps your feet feel the surroundings, a nerve that senses burning, pain, and tingling amongst other functions. Damage to the outer coating in any of these can cause problems with balance, numbness, tingling, pain etc.
The real problem with Neuropathy is that it is degenerative…it gets worse with time. Sometimes it’s slow to start, and other times its rapid. Unfortunately, all cases eventually accelerate to point that patients often times end up with a cane, walker and even into a wheelchair, which affects their quality of life.
The importance with Neuropathy is to get a proper evaluation to determine the stage it is in and can it be helped before it is too late.
The Chiropractic Neurology Center of West Greenwich uses an advanced peripheral neuropathy treatment program. The process is made up of four distinct treatment methods that combine to form the most effective treatment available for the relief of peripheral neuropathy pain and discomfort.
THE FOUR PROTOCOLS OF NEUROPATHY IN WEST GREENWICH ARE:
- Stimulate
- Rejuvenate
- Activate
- Empower
Protocol 1: Stimulate
The process begins with drug-free pain relief and functional nerve stimulation & rehabilitation. For this we use an electronic device which has been cleared by the FDA for a number of pain indications. The device produces and delivers electronic, biologically effective signals that are used to decrease nerve pain and allows for greater blood flow and thus healing and rehabilitation of the damaged nerves. The immediate benefits include pain reduction and the increased ability to feel your feet, which in turn aids in restoring your good balance! Unlike other electro-medical devices used primarily by physical therapists such as Tens units, this equipment has been engineered for physician-use in clinical pain management and neuropathy.
Protocol 2: Rejuvenate
The second step is to increase your overall circulation by utilizing “Light Emitting Diode” therapy. This LED light therapy was designed for the specific treatment of feet and hands and is a critical part of the program. LED light effectively penetrates the skin to stimulate further healing of the damaged nerves by initiating the
release of nitric-oxide. This release causes vasodilation, or the widening of the blood vessels, to restore normal blood flow and circulation. This improved circulation brings more oxygen and nutrients to the peripheral nerves to stimulate angiogenesis through which new blood vessels are formed. The light is able to travel deeper and penetrate your body in ways that cannot be reached by other means, apart from surgery.
Protocol 3: Activate
The 3rd protocol involves using vibration therapy. It has been found that the different types of nerves in the body respond to different frequencies of vibration to heal and respond most efficiently. This treatment uses different frequencies of vibration on different areas of your body which further stimulates new capillary and nerve regeneration. This stimulation helps to increase blood flow to the peripheral nerves and the tissue they serve. The use of tissue vibration therapy also helps to reintroduce sensation and stimulate the nerves that help with balance.
Protocol 4: Empower
There is no discounting the amazing results that our patients see from the first 3 protocols, but protocol 4 is truly THE KEY to not only reaching your desired level of pain-free health, but staying there! You’ve probably heard of the numerous health issues related to inflammation. This dangerous health problem has made headlines in many magazines and journals. Time Magazine calls inflammation “The Secret Killer” - and it’s TRUE! Inflammation has been proven to cause serious health problems such as poor circulation, breathing problems, joint destruction, low energy, allergies, and many of other illnesses. A diet that causes inflammation creates an internal environment where the body is constantly working against itself. People with peripheral neuropathy have chronic inflammation in the nerves, blood vessels, and microcapillaries. Why is step called “EMPOWER” because we empower our patients to take control and ensure that their newfound pain-free health is maintained for the rest of their lives! Through nutritional education and proper supplementation, your body starts to play a more dynamic role in healing and becomes much more effective at fighting off illness and disease.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS?
The 4 step protocol program made up of complementary therapies and methods of treatment are specifically aligned based on the unique needs of each patient and what nerve fibers have been affected. All of our treatments her at The Chiropractic Neurology Center of West Greenwich are non-invasive, non-surgical, and drug-free.
Our methods are highly effective because they work simultaneously to naturally decrease pain while aiding in repair and regeneration of the nerves and micro circulation at the core of the problem. Creating a process allowing the body to begin to heal itself as it was made to do!
